Sheng Zhou

Sheng Zhou is a PhD student at the IHSS of Hong Kong University. He has extensive research interests in economic history, historical sociology, and cultural economics.

Adopting a historical and interdisciplinary approach, his current research examines the interplay between technological transformation and cultural innovation in China. He also maintains a strong interest in the mechanisms of state-building, with particular attention to processes of political integration in frontier regions.

Sheng has presented his work at the 12th International Symposium on Quantitative History. His research has been supported by the Postgraduate Scholarships (PGS).

Prior to joining the University of Hong Kong in 2025, Sheng received his Bachelor’s degree in Management from Sun Yat-sen University and his Master’s degree in Sociology from Zhejiang University.
